Monkeys are Passe, Jackal found in CP

Is Delhi turning into an open zoo? As if monkey were not menace enough, bystanders spotted a jackal bang in the heart of the capital on Wednesday afternoon: Regal cinema in Connaught Place.

This comes a day after a Sambhar deer, usually found in dense forests, was rescued from Mathura Road, in Badarpur area, on Tuesday evening. Police officials said a man, who didn’t identify him self, rang up the police control room to give the information this afternoon. As can be expected, the news first created panic, and then curiosity got the better of people they went in hordes to catch a sight of the animal. amid the dinand melee, the jackal stood quite, seemingly unaware that it had drawn so much attention, amid the pack of generators and other theatre’s rear side.

After reaching the spot, police called the wildlife group, whose inspectors rescued the animal. Wildlife SOS official said the might have got out of the birla Mandir ridge, some time last night, and hid behind   one of the generator in the regal cinema complex. “The spot where the animal was found is barely a kilometer from the Birla Mandir ridge,” Satyanarayan told newsline. “It must have been forced out by the disturbances in side the ridge and  entered the city.”

Satyanarayan said these incidents, as well as the ongoing monkey menace, are indicators of the lack of proper planning to rehabilitate animals. “While natural habitats of these animals are being replaced, there is no proper rehabilitation plan or policy.”
