Rama
named after one of the Indian gods however doesn’t seem to think of himself
as a warrior and the keepers have already noted his deep desire to catch
up on the sleep that has eluded him for so many years as a dancing bear.
Rama weighs 112 kgs but has a large frame and needs to improve his weight
and health. He was owned by Babu Miya who spent a lot of time in rural
areas and hence did not earn a great deal. Babu Miyan also had a very
large family to support and Rama was danced by many different members
of the family and hence grew up a timid and nervous bear uncertain of
what treatment he would receive from his many masters. Hence Rama prefers
to simply stay still and sleep but when his ropes were removed by Dr Ilyaraja
and Dr Moorthy Rama ventured to play with Bablu and Fido, two of our other
bears. His “laziness” could be due to anaemia ,
parasitic loads and a lack of confidence. His keeper allows his bowl of
food to stay before him for longer than the other bears as he takes a
while to eat. When he will be darted and a full dental examination and
blood picture will be taken we will be able to rule out something more
serious. Meanwhile his tonics and feed additives continue; he is undergoing
prophylactic treatment against Tuberculosis and has been cleared of internal
and external parasites.
