Rekha
She was named after a famous film star of Indian Bollywood but had none of her luck or fame. Starving and underweight she was rescued from Rafique Mohammed who fed her the bare minimum to keep her alive till the surrender. One would think this would have broken her spirit but Rekha has sparkling naughty eyes and is playful and lively. Her first act after she reached the rescue centre was to seize a papaya and play with it and then to eat it with obvious relish. This immediately endeared her to our rescue team. She continues to live up to her bollywood name as she has to grab the attention of every passerby and coyly peeps out of her furry face to see if she has succeeded. However Rekha suffered acute parasitic infection and still suffers from anorexia. Feed times are a battle with her drinking a little milk and very infrequently a little wheat porridge. Liver complications seem possible and the threat of tuberculosis cannot be ruled out. Currently feed additives and tonics are being administered and Rekha is also under prophylactic treatment for tuberculosis. When stronger Anti Rabies vaccines will be given. Meanwhile her rope has been cut and Rekha spends her days wrestling with all the bears. She is everyone’s friend. Rekha has poor eyesight due to malnutrition and possibly an old injury and it is hoped this situation may improve with good food and appropriate medication.
