Guddi
Guddi came to us with a terrible muzzle wound and the maggots were pouring out of that wound. Guddi was the most miserable bear and without any energy or appetite. It was only a few days later that Basvaraj our keeper noticed she also had a wound under her arm in the chest region. Guddi had apparently had a fight with one of the other bears during her stay with her old owner, Sharief Miya, who had neglected the wound till it was detected at the facility. Guddi was by nature more irritable and aggressive only because of her pain. Dr Ilyaraja and Dr Moorthy darted her and dressed both injuries and began antibiotics. This together with feed additives and vitamin therapy is helping Guddi regain an appetite but currently she only drinks milk and resists all solid food. Dental problems, ulcers in the mouth, a tender fleshy growth covering the canine that had been knocked out when young; infected root canals all add to her misery. Yet through it all Guddi is alert and sensitive to the keepers and her surroundings and often relaxes enough to stroll around her enclosure. Now that the vets have removed her nose rope and the wound in the muzzle is healing Guddi sometimes attempts to suck at overripe papayas or a piece of watermelon. We hope with love and care to give back to her a healthy pain free life and some of her freedom as she is an elderly bear and her time with us must be comforting and warm.
